Writing Challenge- Day 5
If we live truly, we shall see truly. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Not everyone wants to travel the world, but most people can identify at least one place in the world they’d like to visit before they die. Where is that place for you, and what will you do to make sure you get there?
(Author: Chris Guillebeau)
I have been very fortunate as I have had the chance to travel to 5 countries and I have also driven across the United States 3 times, spending time in at least 12 states. Each trip was wonderful in it’s own way through culture, music, food, wine, art, all unique and amazing experiences; but what each trip lacked was the purpose of helping others. I have been so lucky to everything I have ever needed and so many in the world are not so fortunate. For my next big trip, I would like to travel to a place where I can find a way to help others, whether by assisting with their care, education, thirst or hunger. With young children of my own, I can not see that I will get to take this big trip and be on the ground for quite some time, but this is the kind of place I want to go before I die.
An amazingly motivated and compassionate friend of mine started up a non-profit organization, Tanzanian Woman and Baby, to help mothers and babies get the basic care they so desperately need through lifesaving supplies and staffing. She is starting in Berega, Tanzania. What is so interesting about this place is that they have started an orphanage for the babies with the moms that did not did make it through child birth, in that they bring a family member or sibling in to learn to care for the child, so that in time, they can take the child home. Tanzania would be a great place to start helping on the ground, to learn from and to truly start seeing the world. To make sure I will get there before I die, I will help the organization continue to grow, raise awareness and start to plan to take this trip by 2020. If I can take a trip like this before I die, I will feel as though I truly lived, saw the world and hopefully contributed in a meaningful way.
